Google Pixel Tablet returns to its lowest price ever: $399

Google's Pixel Tablet

The Google Pixel Tablet, known for its exceptional functionality as a smart display among Android tablets, is currently available at a discounted price of $399 for the 11-inch version. This deal, offering a $100 discount, is accessible at various retailers, including Amazon, Target, Wellbots, and Google’s online store. The discount is applicable to the 128GB variants in all color options. If additional storage is required, the 256GB models are also discounted by $100, priced at $499. Google has announced that this offer will be available until December 17, as part of a broader series of Pixel device deals running this week.

The Pixel Tablet, featured in our tablet buying guide, received a review score of 85 from Engadget Deputy Editor Cherlynn Low in June. While it may not match the overall user experience of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S9, which is our top Android pick, due to its LCD panel (compared to OLED), 60Hz refresh rate, and Samsung’s superior multitasking capabilities, the Pixel Tablet offers a compelling option at a $350 lower price point. Boasting a 2,560 x 1,600 resolution display, Tensor G2 chip, and a 5,000mAh battery, it excels in tasks like video streaming, gaming, and web browsing. Google commits to supporting the device with OS updates until June 2026, with security updates extending through June 2028. However, like many Android tablets, certain apps may not be optimized for larger screens when compared to iPads.

What makes the Pixel Tablet unique is its accompanying dock, which functions as both a charger and a dedicated speaker. When placed on the dock, the tablet enters “Hub Mode,” resembling a Nest Hub Max. Although not as seamless, it enables users to leverage Google Assistant for controlling smart home devices, casting videos from a phone, displaying photos, streaming music, and more. This dual functionality serves as a clever compromise for those seeking both a tablet and a smart display, though prioritizing the tablet aspect is advised.

In addition to the Pixel Tablet, several other discounted Google devices are recommended. The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, our top Android smartphone picks, are available at $531 and $799, respectively, with the former representing a $78 savings on the 256GB model compared to Black Friday. Furthermore, the 4K Chromecast is priced at $38, the entry-level Nest Thermostat is discounted to $90, and the Pixel Watch 2 remains at a low price of $300.
