TikTok’s New Profile Tools: A Boon for Aspiring Musicians


TikTok has rolled out the Artist Account, providing emerging musicians with innovative ways to enhance their profiles and increase discoverability. These tools aren’t exclusively for rising stars; even established pop icons can now add an artist tag to their profiles, creating a dedicated tab for their music alongside videos, likes, and reposted content.

To qualify for an artist tag, TikTok specifies the need for at least four sounds or songs uploaded to the app. Artists can spotlight one of their tracks by pinning it to appear first in the music tab. When musicians release new content, the app will designate songs as ‘new’ for up to 14 days before and 30 days after the release date. Any fresh tracks will automatically be included in the profile’s music tab.

TikTok reports that over 70,000 artists have already embraced these new tools. The app has become a fertile ground for both new and established music creators to achieve viral status, owing to the rapid dissemination of dance and lifestyle video trends. TikTok’s profound impact on the music industry has prompted even streaming platforms like Spotify to explore video-centric music discovery feeds.
