Cadillac’s Optiq EV: Affordable Luxury Meets Electrifying Performance

Cadillac

Cadillac has introduced a new compact electric SUV called the Optiq, positioned as an entry-level model below the Lyriq in the brand’s lineup. Initial images released by the automaker suggest that the Optiq will draw design inspiration from the more upscale Lyriq. However, detailed information, including full specifications, is not expected to be revealed until 2024, delaying potential purchases.

Following Cadillac’s naming convention for its EVs, the Optiq will feature a moniker ending with some variation of “IQ,” aligning with models like the Lyriq, Escalade IQ, and Celestiq.

While Cadillac has not explicitly confirmed the usage of GM’s Ultium battery platform for the Optiq, it is speculated that the SUV, comparable in size to the Chevy Equinox EV, may share similar specifications. Drawing a parallel with the Equinox, which features a 210-horsepower electric motor for front-wheel drive and an optional 290-horsepower dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration, the Optiq could offer comparable performance with a maximum range reaching around 300 miles for top-tier setups, as per speculation by Road and Driver.

Autoblog has highlighted familiar information about the Chinese version of the Optiq, which has been disclosed through photos and data shared during China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) pre-market vehicle approval process. Reportedly, this model measures 189.8 inches in length, 75.3 inches in width, and 64.6 inches in height. Compared to the Lyriq, it is approximately 2.5 inches narrower and seven inches shorter in length. The Chinese variant, weighing 4,850 lbs and capable of reaching a top speed of 112 mph, offers two front-wheel-drive configurations featuring 201-horsepower and 241-horsepower motors.

In a concise press release, Cadillac officially confirmed the Optiq as the fourth addition to its expanding global electric vehicle portfolio. Positioned as the entry-level vehicle in Cadillac’s North American EV lineup, the Optiq will fit beneath the Lyriq, a luxury compact SUV. Emphasizing spirited driving dynamics designed to appeal to a global luxury audience, Cadillac promises to reveal additional details, features, and pricing next year.
