With CES 2024 wrapped up, the tech world isn’t slowing down just yet. Samsung is gearing up for its first event of the year, and it’s happening a bit earlier than usual on January 17 at 1 PM ET. While the details are still under wraps, it’s widely anticipated that Samsung will reveal its much-awaited Galaxy S24 smartphones during this event. The excitement continues, and tech enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting what Samsung has in store for its Unpacked event.

Samsung Galaxy S24 lineup

As is customary, the rumor mill has been buzzing for weeks leading up to the release of Samsung’s Galaxy S24 smartphones. Leaker Evan Blass claims to have obtained a spec sheet for all three models—the S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra—providing insights into what Samsung has in store. To fuel the anticipation, Samsung has already set up a “reserve” page on its site, allowing eager customers to secure their spots in line for the latest smartphones.

On the hardware front, expectations point towards iterative changes. Anticipate spec upgrades across various components, promising faster and more efficient performance compared to their predecessors. However, if you’re accustomed to upgrading to the latest handset every year or two, the overall appearance of the phone may not undergo significant changes—except for the Galaxy S24 Ultra. This model is rumored to feature a flat display and a titanium frame, promising a distinctive look among the upcoming releases. The excitement continues to build as Samsung enthusiasts await the official unveiling of the Galaxy S24 series.

One of the most crucial hardware upgrades anticipated for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S24 series is the use of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. This choice is noteworthy as Qualcomm has been actively supporting on-device AI operations with its CPUs, aligning well with Samsung’s recent focus on generative AI advancements.

The Galaxy lineup is expected to undergo a substantial change this year, primarily driven by AI features. Samsung’s recent unveiling of its own generative AI models, capable of tasks ranging from translations and document summarization to drafting emails and aiding in coding, signals a significant shift. Notably, Samsung’s Gauss generative AI technology is likely to make its public debut with the Galaxy S24 smartphones, potentially labeled as Galaxy AI. The company has teased some AI updates, including a feature named “Zoom with Galaxy AI,” hinting at the exciting developments in AI integration expected in the upcoming Galaxy devices.

Everything else: Generative AI, fitness trackers and laptops

The spotlight will undoubtedly be on the new smartphones during Samsung’s upcoming event, with a considerable focus on showcasing the generative AI functions. This extensive coverage might leave limited room for additional announcements. However, there are rumors circulating that Samsung might introduce the Galaxy Fit 3 fitness tracker during the event. Moreover, there’s speculation about the potential release of One UI 6.1 for Galaxy devices.

In addition to the smartphones and potential fitness tracker, expectations are high for the unveiling of several Galaxy Book Pro laptops. There’s also a chance that Samsung might introduce new tablets, smartwatches, and earbuds during the event. As the anticipation builds, it won’t be long before we discover the full spectrum of offerings Samsung has in store for its first mass market devices of 2024.
